 Old unused pipe dope lifespan
Author: cmonkey (IL)

How long does pipe dope last after opening the container? I have some stuff I bought last year that has REALLY thickened up. Its not like plumbers putty but it doesn't spread at all with the brush. I have to use my finger.

I'm wondering if the thickness is responsible for a threaded brass fitting that keeps leaking. I've tried twice with this stuff but still get seeping.

Might be time for new dope if this stuff is just to thickened up?
