 Washing machine drainage
Author: Problematic (Non-US)

Every time I use the washing machine the smell of drains comes up through the sink. It's plumbed correctly. Was thinking it was partially blocked and this was the cause but all input welcome

Are you 100% sure it's plumbed correctly ? It sounds like the washers drain water is pulling the water out of the trap via vacuum, which is usually the result of being incorrectly vented.

who determined that it was "installed correctly"? Properly installed drains do NOT create odors when something drains.

I don't know if the Plumbing Code has changed but you used to be able to install an 1 1/2" stand pipe. The newer appliances pump water way too fast for these older stand pipes. You may have to re-plumb that fixture with a
2"x1 1/2"x2" San Tee so you can have a 2" Stand Pipe. Good luck
