Moen Tub Faucet
Author: CYC (NV) After removing the handle, the next piece is metal and will not come off after removing the phillips head screw. Any solutions?

Author: Pneuma (WA) Depending on the model.. the metal sleeve (if thats what you mean) may turn counter clockwise to unscrew and get to the valve.

Author: srloren (CA) Some of the older models have a brass clip that you pull up on. Be sure that your water is turned off and the pressure is drained down from a hose bib or faucet prior to removing the clip. Suggest you go to Moen.com and check out the drawing for the model you have. Send them a photo and age of the valve if you don't know the model number.

Author: hj (AZ) It is corroded on. Either pull harder while "wiggling" it, or use a handle puller.

HomeDepot has a handle puller made specifically for Moen Valves. They are expensive though. And be aware that sometimes these cartridges get stuck and when you pull the valve stem out with the recommended puller, that only the stem comes out and you must carefully drill out the remaining plastic with the O-Ring seals. BE CAREFUL or you may damage the valve and have to replace the valve. If you are not handy with the tools, you may consider calling your local Plumber.

Author: hj (AZ) "Drilling out" the cartridge is about the best way I know of to destroy it AND the valve body.
