Washer Only Spitting our Hot Water
Author: jno17 (MD)

I've discovered my washer only fills with Hot Water no matter what setting I have it on. There are two water valves leading into the washer. I tested turning off what seemed to be the hot water valve going into the washer and then no water what so ever filled the tank. I turned the valve back on and then turned the other one off and then hot water filled the tank. So with both valves turned on only hot water fills the tank.

I don't have any other issues in the house with getting cold/hot water to fill based on what I chose.

Any ideas, I would hate to spend a fortune getting someone to look at this if this might be an easy solution I can do myself with some coaching.

First, check the cold water supply. Turn off the valve and remove the hose from the back of the washer. Place the hose into a sink or bucket and turn the water on enough to see if water is present and comes out the end of the hose. If that works, you likely have a problem with your washer. There are solenoid valves (electrically operated) in your washer that turn the fill valves on as necessary to fill the washer. That valve could be stuck closed or more likely have a burned out coil. If that's the case, the valve or possibly the solenoid coil internal to the washer may need replacing. If so, you could do it yourself if so inclined, or you will need an appliance guy to do it for you.

It is possible that a screen in the hose or washer where the hose attaches could be plugged up. Check that possibility too. Another, but more remote possibility, is that your washer controller doesn't send a signal to the valve to open it?

I'm with packy on this. Remove the hose and then using an awl, remove the filter screen for cleaning.
