 water exiting from spout drain
Author: snoogie90 (NY)

I have just installed a slip-on spout with a diverter in a shower and there a very small amount of water that is going out from the little drain hole underneath the spout when the water pressure is at the maximum level. Is it normal and part of the normal operation of the spout or if it is a leak from the copper pipe?

Thanks

How much copper pipe was stubbed out when you put it on?

no . remove the spout, shine the copper pipe with fine steel wool to make sure it is nice and shiney then apply some grease (preferably silicone grease) and slide the spout back on. also grease the set screw. you should be OK now..

I'd bet that you nicked the o-ring during the installation. Possibly from a slight burr on the end of the copper tubing. Remove the spout, examine the copper stub out for any burrs, remove the o-ring and look closely for any damage to it.
