Been getting some leaking around my toilet so went and bought a new wax ring and just pulled the toilet. The flange was corroded and falling apart. I got it cleaned up and removed and now am stuck on what it is I need to do. This is what I am left with. The corroded flange I removed in pieces, was under the lip of this piece.

packy....what the heck is that he has left there? It looks like sheet metal, just draped over a stand-pipe.

Yep! That would have made life alot easier!
Thanks to some help from Home Depot of all places, I ended up taking a sawzall and cutting the flange into 4 pieces and breaking it apart which broke it from the drain pipe. I bought a new pvc flange and installed it and was good to go!

I've used one of the split rings like that on a pvc flange before. I've just never seen anything like what he had left on his. To the OP.....I hope they sold you a flange with a stainless ring, and not one that's steel and painted red. Otherwise, in a few years, you'll need to replace it with the one packy is showing you.

It is 100% pvc.
The piece I had left appeared to be a black pvc type material.

Not ideal.....keep your fingers crossed. Solid pvc flanges are not as good as the ones with stainless rings.

the weakness refered to with solid plastic flanges is that if there is any movement the plastic can stretch/bend and the bolts can pop loose. if you silicone thew toilet to the floor this won't happen.

Your "black PVC" is no doubt actually ABS, a different plastic that can't be properly chemically welded to PVC using PVC cement.
