Incomplete work? new sewer system/need detective
Author: nancy867 (CA)

I contracted with a plumbing co and am unsure if they actually did the work. I am an out of town landlord. I am wondering as he had to come back (for more cost) to solve the original issue. Also, I was told that originally they could not do the job w/out cutting through the a brick patio which they did not do. They also suggested that there may be away around. the patio cutting so when I did not see the cut in the brick I did not question it..

His employee told me that the work was not done and that it must have the patio cut to install new lines.

Original job description: Paid in Full 4/2016

*Remove and replace Main Sewer Trunk line and branch lines serving toilets, tubs, showers, kitchen sink and laundry.
*All lines will be SCH-40 ABS, all fittings glue type.
*All POC lines will be RC stainless steel bands.
* All hangers and supports , bracing as required.
*All trenching and back-fill compaction in crawl space
*All accessible clean-out.
*All material and labor for the rough-in.

*NEXT BILL-2016
*Furnish and install one Foundation clean-out, 2 way in order to access sewer line.
*Remove/replace existing brick patio.
*All trenching and back-fill, compaction.
*Replace three ft section of existing sewer line.
*Clear sewer line as it is currently backed up.
*Extend 4" riser with cap to grade.
*Provide Christie box with sewer lid.
*All associated material and labor

I am clueless but it seems to me something is wrong here. I would love your input.

It does seem if somethings not quite right. In the original bill you paid for a new sewer pipe and in the next bill you were charged for a 3' piece of new sewer and a cleanout. That should have been covered in the first bill. It will probably take an onsite evaluation to see exactly what has and has not been done.

Thank you for your input. As I mentioned, I am clueless regarding plumbing. I does seem odd to me that if the actual work was done during the first billing items that the problem (poop under the house) should not continue in the crawl space under the toilets. Additionally, the tenent sent me a photo of the area under the house that showed what appears to be plastic tape around one of the black plastic pipes and moisture? under the tape area.

I am able to rule out the water lines as he had replaced it already. That is when he found the sewer issue.

So much for Angies List.

My take is that the first bill was for crawlspace piping and cleanout at base of the stack and the second bill is for the exterior piping, including the required 2 way cleanout, outside the foundation.

Thanks again for the input. I think it is a great idea to get pictures of it all. The tenant did forward a picture of black tape around a black pipe. No metal fittings could be observed.

Steve I am unsure of the separation of you mentioned. If everything had been done under the house there might not have been continued leakage there. Additionally, the tenant has mentioned that there are flies coming up from the drains.

I want this to end.

Thank you all.
