We have low water pressure, especially when two different parts of the house are using water. There is a water softener that is hooked up to the water line but is not operational and not plugged in. There is no bypass for the water softener. Could this be the cause of low water preasure.

Yes. Why is it not working? What brand? How old and how long has the house been using waters without a softener?

more than likely, because it is "filtering" all the water going through it, but since it is NOT plugged in, it is not backwashing the "stuff" out so it is just accumulating. Are you sure there is no bypass, somewhere, because it would be very poor, and amateurish, installation not to have one.

Very old model spring master over 30 years old. This was the way it was when we bought the house 4 months ago.

You may want to remove it. Send a photo of the way the piping is connected. Thirty years old is old depending on the construction of the tank, it has probably used its useful life. Lets see it.

Removed the water softener and that has dramatically solved the low water pressure problem. I'm just going without the softener for now.
