Ok.... here is the short story.
Roof replaced (demo team came in and took off 3 layers of roof one of which was wood shingles). Dec. 15
2nd bathroom, hardly used.
Did laundry... of which pipes link to toilet pipes. Backed up. Water came up from toilet and wood floor destroyed. This happened over a long time... 3-4 weeks. Just found damage now.
Called plumber.
Stuck a camera down the vent from toilet and found wood shingles in the vent. Camera could not go through.
Went through a crawl out... if that is what it is called, by passing the wood part and camera went through. there were roots down in the pipe further, but water was going through.
Plumber says need to get the shingles out.
Called roofer, as figured it was him who had to get it out.
Roofer brings in his own plumber to asses.
His plumber puts camera down the vent. Gets stuck. Sees shingles. Says there are 2 shingles he sees.
Pushes and pushes camera and gets through... keeps pushing through and down pipe. Then he comes to a full blockage. Says it is roots and guck.
After many times sending the camera down different ways, different pipes, he always hits the same spot and can not get through (funny how the original plumber could get through there).
Says the wood shingles are not the problem, that I have to dig up the blocked pipe and cut out and then put a catch all.. in it. Costing $1700 but he would do it for $1100.
So what is the deal? I do have "stuff" in my pipes from the roofers, that is clear, it might have gone down and truly stopped at this other spot.
Oh... and when the roofers finished we hosed the patio down and the drain was all backed up flooding the patio. I went to the drain at the street and stuck my hand up to see that it was all blocked up there and had to clear.
What do I do... should I care that there are shingles in the pipes? Will it matter at all? Should I have the roofer get the shingles out even if the water is getting through?
Help!

Shingles in the vent MIGHT be a "nuisance" but they do not appear to be the problem. From what you describe ROOTS are the problem and that has nothing to do with the roofer.
