We had our septic emptied over a month ago. We can smell the odor all over inside our home and around the outside. What happened? It wasn't like this before. Also we had a lot of rain and our septic water was coming up from the ground.

It sounds like it could be a problem with the drain field , possibly being saturated or in need of repair. Just pumping the tank is a short term solution.

I hate when that happens. You could have a defect in your waste line from the house to the septic tank or a defect in the pipe coming out of your septic tank to the distribution box or a defect in the field of pipes.
Or
The wet weather has soaked the ground in the septic are and the waters are working their way back to your foundation. An onsite inspection is needed to be sure.
