We noticed a strange high pitched squeal coming from the upstairs shower. It was only happening when the water was off. We tried turning on and then off all the faucets in the bathroom and that worked for a day or two. Now the squeal won't stop. We drained lines and then turned the water back on that didn't help. Now anytime we use water the noise stops for a little bit but it just comes back. Any suggestions would help thanks.

Are you sure it's from the shower ? Sometimes a toilet fill valve will squeal if it's leaking through a tiny bit.
Does the shower faucet leak any ?

Have a closer look inside the toilet tank for any problems.

I am having the same issue with a squealing sound in the shower when the water is off. I can get rid of the noise by turning the water in the tube on and off several times. I do not divert the water when I am doing this and it goes in the tub from the spigot. However, the noise randomly comes back the same day. It is a Kohler brand. I initially thought about replacing the cartridge but when taken apart, it seems to be in good condition. The whole unit is only about 4 yrs. old. I soaked the unit in white vinegar for about an hour and put back together. Still making the squealing noise but only when the shower is not being used.
Any thoughts?
