In a hot water recirc system, the check valves have all calcified in the 2.5 years it has been since installation. Is there a way to service the 3/4" swing checks in the lines, or is replacement the only option? Are there any alternative materials that you guys would recommend instead of brass that would last longer?

I found the same thing happening in a 1 year old system. I installed a stainless swing check in place of the brass hoping it would do better but not enough time lapse yet.

I know it may come down to installing a water softener, but I would rather not if I can avoid it. I personally don't care for the feel of softened water, or the taste. I was curious about stainless as well, but the closest real supply house to me is close to 140 miles away, barring internet purchases.
