I have a stuck cartridge valve and not sure if I need a special tool or just some patience and effort, I have a couple of images to hopefully help in the assessment. Thanks for the help in advance guys! Changing because my water will not stop when in off position

If you need to they are high resolution and can be zoomed in on via clicking the actual picture. Sorry for not directly posting them
-edit- have them soaking in white vinegar to hopefully ease the process

Looks like a Moen 1222. If the valve is secure in the wall, twisting and pulling on the cartridge will sometimes bring it out. They do make a puller to help with removal of the cartridge.

got the puller and it looks like the plastic outside snapped off... Any suggestions at this point?

One of the pullers has a screw that goes into the brass portion of the stem, you may need that one.

the brass portion came out, just not the plastic outside piece. It is stuck in there and will not budge

I can't TELL you how to get it out, because it is a "keep trying until you get it right" process. I can tell you that the last two times that happened to me, I had to replace the body in the wall.

good news, I just broke out all the plastic, thoroughly cleaned the inside and installed the new cartridge. No leaks, no drips! Guess I got lucky. Thanks a lot for all the help and the moral support (which managed to keep me sane through the process)

I once drilled the plastic portion of the cartridge out with a bi-metal hole saw, very carefully.
