 Drain pump/washer issue
Author: danolindo (NY)

Alright guys this is embarrassing...

So I just bought a house and installed a washer and dryer. I know nothing about drain pumps because I grew up with drain lines below basement line. I have run the washer many time, but twice i came downstairs to find my basement soaked with delicious smelling tide water.

I don't like the way this drain line looks and I'm wondering if it may be the problem vs. the washer. Any thoughts? I don't believe it's vented properly but I can't see how water would be pouring out. I've run the washer several times with no problem...

Thanks all!

Ouch, that's a mess. I would let the washing machine pump the water up into the trap and standpipe on the wall.

Any thoughts on the chopped pipe coming out of the drain pump?

Going into the waste line abode the washer would cause water to flood back into the washer no?

There should be a check valve on the discharge line to prevent water from coming back. The short pipe is the vent connection.
