 bathroom tub/shower drain
Author: dospesos (TX)

Remodeling the bathroom. Moving the tub/shower back about 3 feet. Original p trap is close to a wall and could not get cart mounted jack hammer down around the p trap. Understand if you don't install p trap close to tub drain that odors will be an issue. Can you have 2 p traps? One directly under tub and the original one about 2-3 feet away?

Thanks,
dospesos

One trap only.

You don't want any horizontal piping between the trap inlet and the tub drain. Hair, soap scum, skin particles, etc will be in the pipe and can decompose and give off an odor. You can use a 45 out of the trap to offset the drain, the depth of the trap will determine how much offset you can achieve. You may need to use a hand held hammer drill with a chisel bit to get access to the trap.
