This Moen faucet has NO hex nut for removing it. (Model: Aberdeen 7590OR. I cannot get the top "cap" of the faucet handle removed. I don't want to scratch it. I need to remove it so I can replace the cartridge inside (1225. Is there a trick to it?

You may find out that there is a little Moen press fit plug that covers the set screw ?

According to Moen's parts breakdown, the cap DOES pry off and the screw is underneath it. Use a knife blade to pop the cap off.

nope
according to the diagram there is a 'plug button' kit to cover the set screw available in different finishes
in addition to the complete handle kit

I know that MOST have a hex nut. I am looking at the exploded view of it right now (from Moen web site), and this one does NOT - trust me!
Moen has since told me the cap screws off, so I will try that.
Thanks for all the replies trying to help me out.

They show two versions, pre and post 3/01/04 and BOTH show a screw under the cap and the newer one has a separate cap kit, while the old one has it as part of the handle kit.

Moen has 2 versions of the handle. One with a rear side set screw and one with a what looks like pop-off cap(not screw-off).
