We have a 7 year old house that a recirculating pump failure which was caused by the brass/zinc fittings becoming filled with powdery crap. We discovered that all of the fittings on the hot water line also had these. We replaced all of the ones that were exposed ( none in the walls so far) and put in a whole house brita system which removes the chlorimine from the water coming into the house. We are concerned about the fittings we cannot see within the walls and worry that we will develop leaks. we are thinking about moving as a result... any advice on how to determine if the whole house system is working and whether or not we should try to examine inside the walls? How do you find the fittings inside the walls?? Is there an instrument we can buy?
Many other larger houses in our neighborhood have also had this problem. Only in the hot water lines...
I have also heard that it is possibly affected by the ph and the flow of the water...
thanks so much

Do you have a crawl space under the house? if so you may be able to find water pipe and fittings hidden up in the floor joists by insulation.

Before you get too hasty with your moving plans, bear in mind that there are very few houses out there that don't have one type or another of plumbing within its walls, and that ALL plumbing is subject to leakage.
