The toilet is very slow when filling. It flushes properly and no leaks so no problem there. I had one plumber look at it and said there is corrosion around the pipe where the water comes in. The cost for that repair was quite enormous....taking off the toilet, etc. Somehow I feel there is a less costly solution. Thank you.

If your Plumber is taking up the toilet, he sees something that you did not describe. You said it flushes fine but just slow filling. I would start by closing off the valve under the toilet or in the front of the home, then flush the toilet holding the handle down to flush as much as you can. There will still be an inch to inch and a half of water remaining in the bowl. Take a good size sponge and remove the remaining water. Then all you need to do is replace the ball cock (the part that the water connection makes to the bottom of the tank). An excellent choice is the Fill Pro by Korky. If they don't have it discuss it with the hardware store Plumbing specialist to get the correct flapper for your toilet. Tell them the maker of the toilet and show a photo of the inside to the guy that helps you with this part so you make only one trip. All the best.

Turn off the stop at the wall/floor and remove the fill line. Replace the fill valve, replace the fill line and restore your water to the fill valve. You should not have to remove the toilet.

The least costly solution would be to get a plumber who knows what he is doing, and not trying to rip you off. NOTHING he told you makes sense considering the problem you describe.

Be sure to flush out the flex connector in a Gallon bucket prior to re-connecting to the new Ball Cock. This will remove any debris in the system which could be causing your problem to begin with.
