having troubles with adhesive caulk - dap
Author: waukeshaplumbing (WI)

i noticed this started 2-3 years ago...i assume the formula changed....i caulk a top mount bath sink and it looks beautiful.....next day---bubbled requiring a return trip and touch up

this never happened years ago....its got to be something new.....ive started leaving tubes of caulk and letting the GC finish it off for me vs coming back...but its a constant problem.....it doesnt happen around faucets or mixing valves..just where the caulk is thick like around a sink

im going to start using silicone to solve the issue

is anyone else having this issue? any solutions?

thanks!

I think it's from excessive water use during clean-up.

DAP came out with a new even more expensive caulk...i bought 2 tubes and will also take your advice about the water...ill tone it down...over the years maybe ive gotten to excessive with the cleanup

one job is 1.25 hours away...a return trip would cost me $400+ w/ gas.

most sinks are undermount these days anyways, so it hasnt been a big deal...just so happens the next 2 finishes are self rimming.....

thanks for the advice

I have found caulking to generally be a no-win situation. I understand it's part of the job in new construction but I do not include caulking as part of my services. I view it as a homeowner responsibility and when asked, I decline.
