my well pump runs every so often when water is not being used.I thought that it may be the foot valve, but also I have a leak right where one of the fittings screw in to the pump for the well lines, but it only drips one time maybe every 3 or4 seconds, could this be causing the pump to run every half hour to an hour.

Only if you have an EXTREMELY waterlogged tank would a slow drip cause the pump to run that frequently. The two most probable causes for a pump to run with no water being used by the household are: leaking toilet(s), leaking foot valve.

You didn't mention, how old your well system is and when was the last time it was serviced.
There are several reasons why your pump is cycling, without use of water.
You need a licensed professional to perform an onsite inspection and discount the obvious issues.
Best Wishes
