 Acid Neutralizer System
Author: Dave Anderson (WI)

We are thinking about installing an acid neutralizer system to reduce the amount of acid in our well water. Does anybody out there know if the taste of the water would be affected? If so, can you describe what affect we would likely notice regarding the taste of the water? We have a very small amount of iron in the existing well water from our well which we do not find objectionable. We want to reduce the acidity of the water so our water softener will remove the iron from the water we use for the laundry and for the dishwasher.

Thanks,
Dave Anderson

If you're ok with the taste of the water on a softener, then you should be fine with adding a neutralizer. The water will actually taste better if you have copper plumbing because the acidity leaches enough copper from the pipes to give it a metallic/bitter taste.

Actually, we already soften the water for the laundry and the hot water in the kitchen for the dishwasher. The cold water tap in the kitchen is not softened. If we add the acid neutralizer, would the taste of the cold water in the kitchen be affected?

Thanks,
Dave Anderson

IMO, I do not think you will have any change in water taste.
