New pressure tank on sand point
Author: Travelordon (Non-US)

For 25 years we have been getting great water out of our sand point well. You could put a jug in the fried and never get any coloring of rust or calcium forming. Valve was starting to leak so I installed a new bladder tank and now have a bad rust problem. All I can come up with is the old tank had inflow and out flow about 10" off bottom of tank and the little air that was put in from well kept rust falling to the bottom. Does this make any sense? I now have installed a high flow filter inline and do not want to have to go to a $7500 rust removal system on a well that gave me great water for this many years.

Describe the inline filter. Cartridge? Micron rating? Etc.

Have just now installed inline cartridge filter on line coming from well. P.S. The old galvanized tank had a lot of rust in the bottom went removed. Would the bit of air injected by pump have made the iron settle on the bottom of the tank. I have heard some of a air injection system for removal of iron would this be a reason why for 25 years we did not have the slightest amount of rust in our house system?

Air will oxidize any iron in solution and precipitate it out, making ferric iron which is readily filterable. Changing out your tank should not have any negative long term impact on water quality but in the short term, possibly. You probably changed fittings and pipe which may have disturbed iron-clad parts of your system and it is now being 'washed' into the house plumbing every time the pump runs.
