Remodeling bathroom that has older 1980 single handle moen shower valve in tiled wall that operates by pulling the handle outward and then rotating fot hot cold. Upgrading to all brushed nickel shower head plate etc. Question ? I will be replacing the old shower cartridge with new and can this be done so as not to pull out handle and rotate but only rotate to off on hot cold with new cartridge or is this operation pulling outward dictated by valve body ? THANKS

What you have is a valve with the 1225 cartridge. What you want is the 1222 PosiTemp. No, you cannot interchange the two.

Was able to pull out the Moen shower cartridge but only the internal stem came out the new one appears to have an outer cartridge body that I cannot remove? Any recommendations on just replacing the INNER cartridge stem as a Moen cartridge puller has nothing to attach to ?? This is a response to M & M previous reply about the shower valve 1225 and 1222?
Thoughts and Thanks
