 Toilet bowl losing water
Author: eagles (WI)

I recently replaced my old toilet with a new. When the bowl fills it loses about 3" of water. No water is lost in the tank and it's not overfilling. The toilet I took out never did this. This is a toilet below another toilet on another level and that toilet is fine. When I flush the good toilet the water in the bowl of the bad one will move. I thought it would be a vent issue so I went on the roof and flushed it twice with a garden hose. That didn't help. When I add a 5 gallon bucket of water to the bowl it goes right down immediately. It doesn't hold the water. There are no leaks anywhere. Can somebody help me with his? thanks

Is it right when I add a 5 gallon bucket of water to the bowl that it drains out almost immediately? Shouldn't the water stay in the bowl?

Pour water into the bowl slowly, until it reaches its maximum height. THEN observe what happens to the water level. If you dump 5 gallons into the bowl, it SHOULD evacuate all the water except for a small amount which "drops back" after the flush.

How long does it take the bowl to lose it's water ?
Does it lose it even if the downstairs toilet is not flushed ?
It very well could be a crack in the internal trap, you might even be able to hear the water trickling down into the drain pipe.

It loses water in the bowl right after a flush. When the toilet upstairs(the good toilet) flushes you can see the water line move in the downstairs bad toilet.

The downstairs toilet loses water regardless if the one upstairs is flushed or not.

you are being vague. Does the bowl fill with water after a flush and then the water "disappears", or doesn't the bowl refill after a flush?
