14-inch closet flange - Corner Toilet?
Author: kirklandchris (WA)

We are remodeling a bathroom in an older (1920's) house with a toilet rough in that is 14" square in a corner. We'd like to install a corner toilet to save space, but all the corner (or "Triangle?"winking smiley toilets I've found (not many) are for 12-inch rough-ins.

Are there corner toilets for a 14-inch rough-in? I've done about all the Googling I think I can stand… and plumbing supply sites hardly provide the search and filtering capabilities of Amazon.com.

Or, if space is of the essence, are we better off getting the rough in moved 12 inches closer and finding a round (non-elongated) toilet?

moving the flange so it is 12 x 12 in the corner may be easy or may be very difficult.
chances are you will have to remove the flange to orient the toilet bolt slots to 45 degrees. an offset flange will gain you some space without moving the pipe itself.

unfortunately it is all guesswork without seeing below the floor.
also, you will never find anything other than a 12 x 12 corner toilet.
in my opinion, change the flange to an offset type and gain an inch or slightly more and live with it..

It would be a rare toilet that has a roughin 14" from the side, which is what it would have to be for a 14" Triangle toilet, (which are not made anyway). You would have to move your opening 2" back and probably at least 3" to the side for a proper Triangle roughin. Quite often, moving the opening a few inches is more difficult than moving it further.

I'm quickly learning that moving the flange may be unreasonably difficult. With that, I'm thinking of simply purchasing a 14" rough-in toilet but orienting it toward the tub. See drawing. Would this be odd? Sure would save a lot of hassle and space. Only thing I might have to do in this case is move the supply around the corner.

If it were installed properly the opening should be at least 15" from your new rear wall, and 1" shy of the required 15" from the side wall.

depending on which flange you have, you may be able to rotate the ring 90 deg or it may have slots for the bolts at 90 deg from how it is now OR you may have to change the flange.

Thanks. Shouldn't be too bad to replace the flange so it's rotated 90 degrees…
