our AS shower diverter needs to be replaced.
Judging from drawings of the new part, it looks as if a cotter holds everything onto the center shaft.
Can I invert the tub spout to do the replacement or should I unscrew it completely and re-teflon it?

Either way should work, and if it leaks after you invert it, the take it off and retape the thread.

thanks.
I meant an e-clip on the shaft, not that that matters.

I knew what you meant, but the recommendation is the same, however, I have NEVER wasted my time repairing a diverter spout.

do you mean to say, just replace the whole beast or just start by removing it and re-taping?

My time is too valuable to try repairing a diverter spout, and possibly have it fail again. I replace the whole thing and am done with it.
