 Squeaking sound in apartment
Author: civicguy (Non-US)

I have a squeaking sound in my high rise apartment for more than a year. It comes and goes every few minutes at times, maybe sometimes every quarter of hour and is especially frequent on weekends and early mornings (and evenings).

This is how the sound like: [vocaroo.com]

The building management has replaced the PRV (pressure relief value) for the units (a PRV serves about 3 units) but it still has this issue.

I bought a pressure gauge and tested my internal pipes. I noticed the sound comes on when the pressure drops sharply. There is no sound if the pressure drops slowly.

A video. U can hear the sound as the pressure drops.

Please kindly advise.. 1.5 years of sound making me crazy smiling smiley

Ideas: PRV inlet pressure way too high, and/or PRV outlet pressure way too low. Or PRV installed backwards.

What units are on your pressure gauge? Please convert it to PSI for us.

What is the PSI pressure at the inlet and outlet side of the PRV?

Where are you located?
