 Rough in identification
Author: hollyjohnsey (GA)

Good afternoon,

I have purchased numerous new faucet trims for my old rough in for our roman tub. Intially, I did not realize they were brand specific, but I do now. I am trying to determine what brand trim I need to buy for our jetted tub that was installed in 1993, when this house was built. We removed the trim years ago and nowhere on the rough in does it state a brand. I thought for sure it was a delta, but delta said it was not. Thought I might try your site in identifying. I am at my wits end and have got to get trim put on as we are going to be putting our house on the market. This has been very frustrating trying to figure this out and is getting old having to return so many faucets. The old trim was chrome, had almost no bend to the spout and the handles were acrylic like my price-pfister shower trim was and it was ugly, as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Shut off the water, remove the stem cartridge and take it to a professional plumbing supply store for the needed info

Can you post pics of handle, trim and spout? And also a pic of the shaft end of the valve cartridge. There are several different shapes of the shaft, that the handle must match with.

It is Valley Brass. You will have to search for new trim items because they have been out of business for decades.

No wonder nothing has fit!

So this may sound like a really dumb question, but I know NOTHING about plumbing and what each individual part is called. I know what the rough in is and I know there are valves top side of the tub. Is it possible to replace just top side handle valves and the spout piece and just chose a different brand or does the entire rough in have to be replaced. My husband has already moved and it's just me trying to figure all this out. I have already spent a tremendous amount of money on this house getting it ready for sale and I really hate the thought of having to put out more money for a plumber to come and replace this for me. In my possession I have a peerless trim, a moen trim and I believe a kohler trim. If I could just swap out the above tub hardware to make one of these fit, that would be awesome, but I dont know if that is feasible.

Not likely. You really do need a good plumber to repair that fixture for you. If your skills are limited, your options are too. All the best.

Replacement handles are available, but the trouble is finding a spout. The major "E" auction site has a complete valley faucet in white/brass under this number - 131013799915.

This site Plumbeingsupply.com still shows Valley roman tub spout and handles along with the rest of the trim parts.

PlumbingSupply, com doesn't sell the spout, it only has the picture of it in the exploded diagram.

Thanks for everyone's help. I saw the white with brass, unfortunately there's nothing brass in my bathroom and the tub is almond. I also saw the replacement handles, but no spout. If I had known it would be impossible to find what I needed, I would have never gotten rid of that ugly trim!

You could always have the spout re-plated to whatever finish you need, but it might be cheaper to replace everything.
