Cutting a copper pipe to install a new dishwasher
Author: boconnellboconnell (MA)

Hello,

My old dishwasher isn't draining properly and I can't diagnose the problem, so I've decided to install a new one. I've been trying to remove the fitting that connects the hot water line (copper pipe) to the dishwasher, but it's completely stuck. It looks like some kind of adhesive was used to attach the fitting (not plumber's tape), so I'm getting nowhere with a wrench.

My current plan is to cut the copper pipe with a hacksaw next to the fitting, then use a new compression fitting to connect to the new dishwasher. Any reason that this wouldn't work? Thanks!

The stuck fitting is on the right. Thanks!

That's a flare fitting with some dope on the threads. If you hold the fitting steady with a wrench and use another wrench on the nut it'll come loose.

That is a flared connection. It is NOT "glued", it is just very tight and you have to use more force on your wrench to turn it.

the flare fitting is to be turned counter clockwise
