I had a toilet that kept getting black spots inside, looked like mold. The toilet was older so I just replaced it, assuming that it was something in the toilet causing it. But now after a few weeks, the new toilet is showing the same spots. The spots are around the top of the bowl where the water swirls out, and in the area where the water sits. Any help?

Sounds like a condition in your bath room. Do you have fresh air coming in from an open window. Mold grows when conditions exist to promote it. Darkness, no air movement, moisture and a creature of some sort that takes advantage of this condition. Take away one of the conditions and limit the growth. Fresh moving air is the best to limit the problem along with cleanliness.

Yes, it is bacteria. Is your water source well or city supplied with Chlorine? Are you flushing each time or observing the yellow and brown thing? As suggestion, air circulation is important in any personal or public washroom. Cleaning with chlorine once a week should resolve the issue.

This is the only toilet where this occurs, so could it be something specific in the pipes that lead to this toilet? I don't think it's anything to do with the environment in the room since a) we've been here 17 years and it just started 6 months ago and b) this isn't a full bath so there's no shower creating humidity etc.
