 Toto Drake incomplete flush
Author: Neb (CO)

Hey all,

I've got 4 Toto Eco Drakes installed in my house. I had 3 in my last house, all DIY, and I loved 'em. This time I hired a guy to do the labor, so I don't know for sure things are kosher.

3 of the Eco Drakes are working great, two upstairs and one in the basement. The one in the powder room is... not so good. It struggles to flush solids, and I generally have to plunge after each use.

I read this forum and tried to look at the most common issues. First I thought I had a bad flapper, because with a short pull of the handle it definitely clamps back down right away and only flushes maybe half of the tank. But then I went and looked at my other Drakes, and they do the same thing.

I believe I hear a SLIGHT gurgle/air kind of sound during the flush of this toilet that I don't hear on the others. I could be dreaming, but I'm pretty sure. It's subtle.

Any ideas what I should try next? Pull the toilet and snake the drain? Something different? I guess one thing I could do is swap a different tank onto the bowl; that'd be pretty easy. Looking for guidance, help! Thanks guys!

Okay, done! 5 gal bucket of water went in/down just fine. At least, I didn't notice anything amiss. What does that tell us?

Hmmm...Not an expert, but you haven't received other replies. The 5 gallon test means the waste line isn't clogged, so your problem is in the toilet.

I'm not a plumber, but an engineer. You have two identical machines, a working machine and a malfunctioning machine. Carefully study one of the other toilets that flushes properly. Record how full the tank gets, how long it takes to empty, and how long it takes to fill. Do the same with the malfunctioning toilet. There will probably be differences you can address by adjusting the flush valve. But given that it is a Toto toilet (pure awesomeness, I bought one because of the recommendations here on plbg.com), it is likely to be an easily fixable problem.

And if a qualified plumber chimes in here, do what he says first.
