We have purchased a stainless steel farmhouse sink. It came with a drain assembly. The drain has a white foam washer that goes between the drain and the inside of the sink. Do we still use plumber's putty to seal the drain or will the foam washer create a water tight seal? If we do need to use plumber's putty, does the putty go between the drain and the washer or between the foam washer and the inside of the sink?

the foam washers are OK but they don't compress enough so the rim of the strainer will be a touch high. this will always have water setting around it.
i would just use 100% silicone caulk.

Throw the gasket away and apply silicone caulk under the flange, enough so that the excess squeezes out. Wipe excess off. Do NOT use plumbers putty on a stainless sink.
