 Basement Drain
Author: wldmtn (NE)

My basement shower is a part of a remodel (it was done before I moved in)the shower drain is also the Main basement drain. It was a real slow drain and I ran a big bottle of Drano through it and the drain worked fine at that point. The problem is when the water is gone from the shower there is still standing water in the pipe. It doesn't seem to keep the drain from draining as fast as it goes in but once the shower is clear the water lever in the pipe never gets more than one inch under the level of the top of the drain. It is beginning to smell. I have tried to run a wire down the pipe but can feel a blockage.
I'm really stumped. Any help is really appreciated. Thank you for your time and help.

You're probably seeing water that is being held in place by the P-trap that's under the floor. If there was no water there sewer gases would have a direct path into your home.
