 Pedestal sink install

Do you typically put any adhesive or caulk where the bottom of the bowl and the top of the base meet? Will doing so be pointless or useful?

I seal up the gap between the basin and pedestal with tub + tile caulk after the install is completed.

OK so I'll do the same.

I put the bowl on the pedestal and the entire thing rocks a little. I think the tiled floor is not 100% even.

Should I shim the base with wood shim?

It is a Kohler Wellworth pedestal sink. The base has a semi-circular surface area contact with the floor...or may be I apply a lot of silicon caulk at the base and let it set?

shim and use mildew resistant tub and tile caulk. much easier to clean up and will stay better looking.

Should I apply caulk over the entire surface area of the bottom, then lay it down on the floor to make it more secure? Or install the sink bowl and base without any caulk, then apply caulk only around the perimeter of the bottom?

if you really want to stick it down, put the caulk first. if you want it just decorative put it after.

OK, I got the base and sink in, tightened the sink to the wall with the bolts. Then when I tried to install the drain, the tail piece is not long enough...or may be it is OK but I feel better with an extension. Here is a picture of the tail piece and the top of the p-trap. Can I get away with this?

So, I wanted to extend it a bit, so I have a piece of 1-1/4" extension laying around, I cut a short piece of it and tried to use it, but this short piece has a "hub" so the p-trap can't go above that...now it's too long.

Do I need to take the sink off the base again, simply to cut the drain tail piece shorter by say 2 inches, just to fit a short piece in so it would be longer by say an inch?

do they make a p-trap where the inlet side is say an inch taller then "typical"?

Keeney makes a high inlet 20 gauge brass J bend - #10404cp
It's about 1" taller and I don't know the availability of it. There are more Euro and "downunder" high inlet traps shown on a search, than US.

Steve, thanks. I end up unscrewing the just short tailpiece and used a long one cut shorter to fit.

Its amazing that original kohler tailpiece was just short by so little, the pipe actually goes into the ptrap a little but when I tightened on the slip nut the wedged washer would be pushed a tiny bit off the edge of the pipe by a hair.
