Need help removing old tub faucet
Author: Hoosier205 (IN)

Initially I was only going to replace the shower head, but unfortunately I have a Positemp issue. I cannot for the life of my get this sucker to come apart. I removed the screw from the center, but no matter how hard I pull it will not come off. I can turn it left and right to turn the water on or off, but cannot remove it. What am I missing? I'm afraid I will rupture a pipe in the wall if I crank on it any harder. I even beat the hell out of it with a hammer and torqued on it with a pry bar!

Any help would be very much appreciated!

I would try some heat on the adapter and see if it will expand enough to release from the shaft.

Spray some WD40 or similar penetrant into the center and then heat it. Try alternating with this method and it will probably loosen eventually. You will probably have to replace the adapter in the end.

I would cut it perpendicular to the wall with a hacksaw or Dremel, then split it open with a screwdriver.

Of course, this will ruin the part, but you should be able to replace this when you buy a new trim kit to replace the escutcheon that is now dented.
