 Yard Hydrant
Author: lakefork67 (ID)

We are having a hydrant installed next to our well housing. My husband was given a hydrant with approximately 8 feet of pipe. His buried depth will be 3 feet. Can he cut some of the pipe length off so it doesn't stick above ground level so high?

I have only seen them ordered to length. I do not believe that there is any way to cut it down. Your best bet would be to live with it or order a new one.

If you are saying that the existing hydrant is an 8' bury hydrant and you want to change it to a 3' bury hydrant, you will need to shorten the external pipe as well as the internal rod. We are not talking about a five minute DIY job.

They are made to varioius lengths as to what depth you need to bury to place the valve mechanism below the frost line.

I found a novel idea for installing these when i googled this. Easy install kit apparently has a pitless adapter to the end of the yard hydrant.. Probably cost prohibitive though.
