 Master Bath Water
Author: rscott17 (NJ)

We moved into new construction and are having an issue with the master bath tub. The water coming from the faucet oftentimes is orange (if not run every few days) and even when it is run daily, most of the time it's cloudy with black specs (maybe sulphur?). It clears up after running for a few seconds. We aren't having this issue in any other room or bath. Any ideas on what it could be? The builder isn't sure what is causing or how to fix, other than to say they don't control the water coming into the house, which is city/township water.

probably someone used a steel nipple in the supply under the tub. it is NOT coming from the city water supply.
the plumbing inspector might be interested to know about this problem..

thanks for the reply. Just curious, how would a steel nipple cause this?

the orange colored water is most likely rust. all parts that contact water must be non-ferrous. if the water sits for a couple of days it will corrode the iron pipe and thhe water will run rusty for a few seconds.
now, i could be wrong but one thing is for sure, it is NOT coming from the city water supply.
so, whatever it is (rust or ????) it will need to be addressed sooner rather than later.

I think Packy is 100% correct. I've saw this exact situation several times and it was always a black iron nipple used for the tub spout that caused the problem.
