My son has installed American Standard Walk In Tub. The drain doesn't work right. When the tub has just a little water in it, you can turn the drain disk and drain lifts and drains OK. But when the tub is full and you turn the drain disk it opens but then the water pressure forces it closed. You have to reach down to the drian and lift it with your hand and keep constant pressure on the drain disk to get the water out. What is wrong?

We have opposite problem here. Both our tubs now won't keep the water in even when tub drains are supposed to be stopping the water from going down the drain. Even new drain pulls haven't fixed it. Husband bought about three different types. Finally I just had him cut gasket material to apply to one and a cut square to apply to drain surface for the other. Once again, another plumbing issue isn't quite right but solution found here. It does seem strange water won't go down the drain in your situation as it would seem that gravity would help it along. Hopefully someone with this type of experience will give you a helpful solution.

you should have a lift n twist drain. you lift it up a twist slightly and it should stay up. if not then something might be wrong with it. just try twisting a little more until it stays up or you go 360 deg. that will let you know if it needs replaced

if you have trip lever drains you may have to get just the right one or possibly replace the tee that the shoe and overflow pipes go into
