I am removing my old one out because it is damaged around the lip and when lifting it up, I noticed it is also broken at the bottom.
Model is JACKEL INC SF24x36 ..... POS brand and POS company
New one is a Zoeller Brand Z311102 .. another POS (it has a flimsy base and I don't like it)
House was built in 1985. There was orange fill around it.
How long are these things supposed to last below grade?
I am thinking about just placing it above grade for easy maintenance.
or building a pit out of concrete around it with some space.

I prefer the Liberty series 370 or 380 sewage pump package system. Great construction, great service features.

Two pumps is a good idea if you alternate their use. Did you wire it to alternate? Don't ask me how, I just asked a question as I have replaced a few of these jewels. I had a lid off at San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station in North San Diego one time and my Supervisor was standing over me and he says, "Look at all of those lipsticks in there", he was refering to the waste product for womens hygene that they commonly flush down the toilet. I had to laugh, but not too loud because I didn't want to embarass him..he was a Supervisor but also a friend.

I'm not going to set them up to alternate. One will sit there in case I need it. I hear those alternate switches fail easily.
It might stop working when I'm not there and I could tell and instruct visitors/family to plug one pump off and plug other in.
I will plumb it with a WYE and a ball valve for each pump discharge.
I would just have to plug the non working one off and plug the other one in.
In the meantime, I can address the non-working pump when time allows.

typically a sewage basin has an indefinite life, there must be something in that ground that reacted badly to yours, i too like the liberty basin it is solid but zoeller makes a cost effective double pump basin, lipsticks... good one laughed my ass off. thanks for that post. back on track though 2 pumps non alternating, 1 just sitting in there for potentially 5 years is a very bad idea, when it comes time for it to work chances are it will be siezed.

An idle sewage pump is the devil's workshop. Work it.

What if I alternated every 2-3 months?

I have an idea:
What if i elevated the 2nd pump and have it sit where the 1st one would start ejecting ?
The Zoeller M267 pump turns on at 12", shuts off at 4" ( Which is not enough of a difference for a 24x36" basin in my opinion)
But I could elevate the 2nd come so it would not be sitting in the sewage.

Elevating it may even be worse
