The shower knob turns the water on and then off.
Author: jaywhy (TX)

I had a dripping shower head so I figured I'd replace the cartridges in the knob stems. (Home Depot guy said gasket on inside was worn out.) I got a 6S-H/C (Moen/Stanadyn) cartridge as this was the same size as my previous one. I installed it and no more drip! Yay! But then i turn the shower on... it turns on... great! And I continue to turn the shower knob and then it turns the water off. Not great. I reverse it back. Water on and then off.

The knob comes to a stop at both 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock shutting the water off. But at 9/3 o'clock, the water runs. What the heck did I do? Any help is appreciated.

Is your problem hot and cold? I found this on a search -

Package clearly states HOT/COLD stem. ONLY works on the hot side. WILL NOT WORK on the cold side. The above answer from DANCO states due to a handle change from MOEN makes ths cold valve only work on older faucets. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO KNOW THIS ON THE PACKAGING WHILE I WAS AT THE STORE TO PREVENT ME FROM MAKING MULTIPLE TRIPS! This would be a FAIL on DANCO's part. Very frustrated

Cons: No Instructions, does not fit

Thank you for choosing Danco products. We apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced. In the two years since we gave that answer, we have redesigned our stem so that it would work with lever handles on both the Hot and Cold side. There must be some of the old cartridges still out there. If you will contact our Product Support team at 800-523-5135 or support@danco.com, we'd be glad to exchange the cartridge you have for one of the new ones.

It says it's for hot and cold on the packaging. I got two and they were identical. It was on the cold side for what it's worth.

The post I posted had a problem with their cold side. Danco made changes to the stem to make it H&C, but you might have gotten and old style cartridge in a new style package.

The handles aren't new. They're at least 6 years old. Not sure if that qualifies as old enough for Moen though.

I emailed Danco technical support and they said the pieces may have been cut wrong. They are shipped me 2 new pieces. The problem persisted. Danco said to call Moen. I called Moen and Moen said the Danco cartridges really don't work so they're sending me 2 that will... supposedly.
