I replaced my kitchen faucet about 18 months ago. The new model has single lever handle to adjust water temp and pressure. It worked perfectly for over a year. It works fine when it is open 100%, however, if I open the valve a little, maybe anything under 50%, the weight of the lever pulls itself down and turns the water off. Is this a common problem? Is there a fix? Maybe somehow increasing the friction of the joint?

It is probably a Moen faucet and sometimes the stem has too much lubrication so the stem moves too easily. It is usually a problem when the stem is new, however.

absolutely moen, common issue as some of their handles are big and heavy, i have fixed this issue by pulling the cartridge out and removing the center metal shaft, putting a very slight bend on the shaft and then reinstalling, this gives a slight resistance within the cartridge that will hold up at any volume
