My whole apartment smells like eggs when I wash my clothes. My two bathrooms smell like eggs when the water is running on hot or cold and even when it is off. The kitchen water does not smell. Why is this? I live in a brand new apartment. The annote was replaced in the hotwater tank as protocol even though nothing was wrong with the old annote. The problem still exist.Sometimes the water even smells like diesel gas.

I'll put this out there....just cuz......I have read of other folks having problems with water smell after replacing the water heater. When they contact the water heater manufacturer, the first question they are asked, is, have you recently replaced the carpeting in the home? To which the answer has been "yes". Is it possible that your senses are so overloaded with the off-gasing of new construction materials that you can't be sure of its origin point? Just a thought...Good Luck

I have had the same issue and like you replaced the water heater...and had the water tested (was fine). About 25-30 days later, the rotten egg smell was back. I drained and rinsed the hot water heater...and the smell disappeared for about 25-30 days...then back again. All I can deduce is that the "sludge" in the hot water heater was causing the smell. I now just drain the hot water heater every month and keep the odor at bay.
