Earlier I asked about soldering chrome plated copper supply lines. Now I find that the lines may not be copper after all. They are for an old claw foot bathtub, and I would guess they are brass with either chrome or nickle plate. Does anyone have any idea what they are made of and whether they can be soldered? Thanks.

to answer the question, yes brass and copper solder together perfectly well. clean the chrome plate off completly or you will have trouble.

If they are NOT copper or brass tubing, what kind of fittings are you going to solder them to? 1/2" o.d. would normally be a brass tubing.

Would solder them to a 1/2 to 3/8 copper reducer if I can get the chrome off. When I tried to sand them earlier I had trouble telling if the chrome was off, that's when I noticed they were not copper. I could also try a Sharkbite 1/2 x 3/8 reducing coupler if I can't get a good solder joint. Don't want to install a standard cut off there because I already have one before the mixing valve I am installing.
