Help! Where does the washer drain connect?
Author: roboyang (CA)

Hi, total newcomer and hopefully someone will answer this fairly simple question. Just moved into a brand new house and the builder is away on vacation. The washer and dryer got delivered today and the installer has no idea where the washer drain should connect. There's two candidates:

1) Two plastic caps (not removable) next to the faucets. (See picture one)

2) A metal cap that I removed at the bottom, with what looks like another cap underneath (see picture two).

Any ideas?? How do I access either?

Thanks! Happy labor day!

One of the two "round white" caps has to be broken off. the drain is under one of them. To find out WHICH one, slide a knife through the crack under the box and see which side it hits the pipe.

The caps are molded into the box, they allow the drainage system to be pressurized for the rough in plumbing test. They are designed to be easily removed.

To explain the mystery that was left standing, your washer drain has a trap or gooseneck just like any other drain. The metal cap you found at the bottom is the cleanout for this. I have the same arrangement. But where you hang your drain hose is under one of those breakoff caps next to the valves just like the other guys are saying.
