 Moen cartridge
Author: Kevin724 (NJ)

After reading posts on here I was finally able to remove the old cartridge. Now the new one won't go all the way down the pipe? The only thing i see might be stopping it is I can see what looks like a copper ring half way down?

There should be nothing visible in the valve body, you may have left a piece of the old cartridge behind when you pulled it out. Try to remove the piece you can see with a piece of wire with a hook bent on the end.

These mixet cartridges create a seal when you put them in. Clean the pipe with a paper towel, apply a thin layer of plumbers grease around the rubber gasket and the entrance of pipe and push that sucker in there. FYI, the cartridge should be fully extended when installing it. Usually the hole with the red mark should be facing down to get cold/hot water to flow as designed, however, you might have to flip it if hot is cold and vice versa.

I think the copper ring you're describing is part of the old assembly or the end of the pipe. If part of old assembly you should recognize the copper ring somewhere on your new cartridge. You might have to pull it out as previous poster suggested.

Be careful and not scratch the inside of the valve with your wire or device that you use to pull that ring.
