I had a water pressure problem with my water heater. I removed the cold water nipple and saw that the platic float was stuck at the top of my dip tube. It looked like there was a piece of rusted metal around it. I tried to grab ahold of it, but it slid down the dip tube. I tried to pull the dip tube out all the way out, but my tank (80 gal Rheem) is too tall. I decided to put the dip tube back and install new fittings and see if that was the problem. It worked great for about a day and then the pressure dropped again. I ran about 15 gallons of hot water and then it went back to normal. It seems like this plastic float wants to get stuck now. Can I remove it without causing any problems or do I need to replace the dip tube?
Thanks,
Sam

I am not familiar with a float in a nipple for water heaters. Please enlighten me with a photo of your nipple. Thanks.

It hasn't happened again, so whatever was causing it to stick, has stopped. If it happens again, I will just remove the float.
