Toilet Problem - Side push button flush
Author: Lance (NJ)

Unlike most toilets which have a regular flush lever, mine has a square shaped push button on the side of the toilet tank. Every YouTube video that I've seen featuring push button flush levers have the button on the top of the tank though, not on the side, and even then, those buttons appear to have a fairly easy screw mechanism which can be used to remove the button.

The side button on my toilet is completely "frozen," or rusted shut, and will not move at all. I've tried using WD40 (a lot of WD40) to "unfreeze" the button but that has not worked at all.

There are also seems to be no way to actually remove the push button flush lever without damaging the toilet tank.

Any and all suggestions on how to "unfreeze" or release the button or remove it from the tank so I can install a regular flush lever, or even a new button, would be greatly appreciated.

sponsor has them.
it appears that you pull the cotter pin, rotate and drop the plastic part and unscrew the hex nut.
