I had a water leak in my shower from the cartridge and I replaced it with a new one, identical to the old one (Delta). After getting everything into place and making sure the temperature was right, I replaced the lever thinking all was complete. Wrong. Water to the house was turned back on, shower came on and I turned the lever and the water in the shower would not turn off. What could possibly be wrong or what am I missing?

Well my friend, I carefully checked the springs, the rubber grommet and greased everything and it appears all okay. I inserted the springs and rubber grommet and then carefully reattached the cartridge. Cartridge was reinstalled, turned the water back on and the water continues to run and will not shut off. I am truly baffled.

Buy a new set of cup washers with springs and make sure that the old ones are out of the holes in the valve prior to installing the new ones. The spring goes in one way. Some springs are tapered and the tapered end goes into the cup washer. Be sure you are installing them correct or they will leak. Good luck.

The springs and washers go inside the cartridge and it's all installed as one piece.
