 drilling cast iron closet flange
Author: finnegan57 (MN)

Hello, I am putting in a new toilet and turning it 90 degrees from its original position. The ci flange is in great shape but it has only one set of holes for the closet bolts. Can I drill a new set of holes to re-orientate the toilet or will I need to replace the entire flange? Thanks for your help!

bust away the top ring of the flange. you can leave any of the flange that is on the outside of the pipe as long as it is lower than the floor. then get a flange that fits inside 4 inch pipe, lube up the gasket and tap it into place. secure it with good screws.

With a cast iron flange, you may be able to use an angle grinder to cut a set of notches to slide closet bolts into with far less trouble.
