Moving Tub Drain on solid slab foundation?
Author: DiscoMike (CA)

I'm doing a master bath remodel and want to convert a one person tub (side drain) to a double (center drain) on a slab foundation. I'd rather not cut into the foundation...are there other options? Can I raise the bath tub with a platform of 2x6 and rip a drain through the boards? With a large 72" tub, can the weight support it?

Anybody deal with this successfully and how?

Is the tub available with an "above the floor" drain?

your problem is not with the weight/support of the tub. the problem is complying to plumbing codes with the drain.

Correct, you're likely going to have some code violations if you don't open up the floor. You can also cause some odor issues with the piping before the trap as well. The trap needs to be directly under the overflow of the tub.

you could also change position of the tub entirely if you have space.
